Your checklist for a successful real estate photo shoot
Streamline your furnishings
- create open spaces – remove all unnecessary furniture (e.g., side tables, dressers, etc.)
- Move children's furniture, playpens, and toys back to the children's room and the computer to the study
- Remove all worn furnishings
Clean everything
- Dust all floors, furniture surfaces, wall tiles, mirrors, and windows
- Remove any limescale stains from fittings and from sinks, showers, and bathtubs
Create clarity
- Ensure uniformity
- Hide appliance cables and cable distributors
- Depersonalize your furnishings
- Remove all family photos and other personal mementos
- Remove all signs of political or religious affiliations
- Remove all references to sports or clubs, hobbies, and brands
- Remove all certificates and diplomas
- Remove souvenirs, trophies, and awards from walls and shelves
Minimize decorations
- Remove all pictures, knick-knacks, and hobby collections
- Remove all cushions and blankets from the living room
- Cover a table with no more than one decorative item
- Remove any newspapers and magazines lying around
- Remove trash cans and wastebaskets
- Clear all tables, shelves, and cabinets in the kitchen on Friday
- Remove magnets, photos, and children's drawings from refrigerators and bulletin boards
Smooth out fabrics
- Ensure that curtains and drapes are evenly folded
- Take all towels off hooks
Prepare outdoor areas
- Remove all vehicles from driveways
- Hide trash cans
- Put away garden tools, water hoses, sprinklers, and used barbecue equipment
- Mow the lawn
- Rake flower beds and driveways
- Sweep paved areas
- Close all windows and doors for the first exterior shots
