That depends on the individual case. Certain properties (e.g. vacation homes) are in higher demand at certain times and are therefore easier to sell.

Gerda H.: "This is how I found my senior living community"
Since I am still in very good health and do not need any help in everyday life, a retirement home was out of the question. Nevertheless, I did not want to live alone. In conversation with my children Georg and Stefanie, we came up with the idea of a shared apartment for seniors. Stefanie then looked into the possibilities on the Internet.
Start my own shared apartment?
Since I wanted to choose who I lived with, I initially intended to start my own shared apartment. But it quickly became clear that the effort involved was simply too great. Not only would I have had to find a suitable apartment to rent, but I would also have had to find suitable roommates. I was also unsure about how big everything should be. After all, the more roommates, the more we would have to share the costs.
Move into an existing shared apartment?
I quickly ruled out starting my own shared apartment. So my children and I decided to look for an existing senior citizens' shared apartment in a care facility. That seemed like a good decision for the future. After all, who knows, maybe I won't be so fit someday.
Stefanie found a few facilities near her. I then looked at three shared apartments and got to know the other residents. A mixed group of four was looking for a fourth roommate. The other two shared apartments were for women only.
At first, I was skeptical because I was joining an existing group on my own. But I actually got along well with everyone. They told me about their experiences; after all, they had been in the same situation as me. I could have moved into two of the apartments. I decided on the mixed flat share. I've settled in well now.
What will happen to the house?
Since Stefanie and Georg both have their own houses, neither of them wanted to move in there. So we decided together to sell the house. Since we didn't want to deal with selling the house on top of looking for a shared apartment, we hired a local real estate agent. Everything went smoothly and quickly. I have already distributed part of the proceeds from the sale to my children and grandchildren as an advance inheritance, and I have put some aside for myself.
