When moving into a retirement home is no longer avoidable

Hannelore and Gerhard K. loved their house. When they bought it almost 40 years ago, they assumed they would spend the rest of their lives there. But now their needs had changed. Climbing the stairs became too strenuous, so they moved their bedroom from the upper floor to the ground floor. But because they were no longer able to take proper care of their house, they considered moving to a retirement home. But what should happen to their house?

Hannelore and Gerhard found it difficult to part with their property. They struggled with the decision for a long time. Ultimately, they realized that the house no longer suited their needs. They discussed all the options with their children.

Inherit or sell?

At first, they thought about leaving the house to their children. However, as both children now have families and their own homes, this was not a suitable solution. In addition, the property would have needed at least some renovation, if not complete refurbishment. Their children did not have the necessary funds for this. When Hannelore and Gerhard also calculated the costs for a retirement home, they quickly came to the conclusion that it made sense to have some money set aside. That's why they decided to sell.

Selling real estate, but how?

The couple knew that real estate prices were currently high. However, they were unsure about prices in their area and, above all, how much their property was actually worth. They didn't want to make any mistakes, so they turned to us. A neighbor had recommended us to them.

We valued the property. It was worth much more than the couple had expected. We then took care of organizing the documents relevant to the sale, took photos of the property, and created a target group-oriented exposé and a virtual 360-degree tour. As we have a large database of property seekers, we checked whether we already had a suitable buyer for the house. And sure enough, two came up. We sent them the property listing, arranged viewing appointments, and showed them around. Both prospective buyers made an offer, so we were able to conduct a bidding process.

Everything went better than expected

Hannelore and Gerhard then decided on the better offer. They were not only delighted with the high sale price and the fact that the sale of the property had gone so smoothly for them in such a short time. They were most pleased that they were already able to pay out part of the inheritance to their children and grandchildren. With the remaining money, they supplemented their budget for a luxury retirement home near their children. After the appointment with the notary, they thanked us for everything going so smoothly: "Selling the house with a real estate agent was definitely the right decision."
