A house steeped in history
The former director's villa "Grundhof" was designed by renowned architect Karl Meckel (BDA). It is a listed building, meaning that parts of the house are worthy of preservation. Meckel (1892–1970) was one of the most influential figures in regional architecture at the time, and the house offered here enriches our understanding of his work as well as our ideas about wealthy building owners in the Olpe district in the 1920s and 1930s.
The building application was submitted on March 24, 1934, the shell was approved on July 28, 1934, the house was ready for occupancy on December 13, 1934, and was occupied in January 1935.
The two-story residential building with an almost square floor plan is covered by a hipped roof with old-colored Schorndorf plain tiles. The facades were constructed with light-colored scratch plaster and grouted clinker brick cladding, while the two-tone reddish-brown and white windows also correspond to the original condition.
The building has three floors, including the attic, and a spacious basement. The living rooms are located on the ground floor, while the bedrooms and the spacious bathroom are located on the upper floor. In the attic, there are two former servants' rooms, as well as an attic and a storage room, which are in need of renovation and offer potential for creating additional living space. A total of up to six bedrooms can be created, making the villa ideal for larger families.
The ground floor features the kitchen with adjoining pantry and the living room, which is directly connected to the dining room. The dining room is adjoined by the conservatory. This level also houses the former study, which is now used as an office. The spacious hallway with its Solnhofen tiles makes a representative impression as soon as you enter. A guest WC and a cloakroom are of course also available. The elaborately laid parquet flooring on the ground floor and the tiles in the hallway are listed as historical monuments.
The bathroom on the upper floor is equipped with a shower, bathtub, and two sinks. Thanks to the large window, it is bright and friendly; it was also extensively modernized in 2018. This floor also has four bedrooms and a spacious balcony.
A special highlight is the artistic stained glass window in the stairwell.
In the basement, there is a sunken wine cellar, which is accessible via a floor hatch that can be opened with counterweights.
The property is completely level and partially paved. The outdoor area can comfortably accommodate around five vehicles, and there is also a garage for an additional car. The spacious lawn is ideal for playing, lingering, and relaxing.
Historically valuable – cozy and beautiful
The Solnhofen tiles and elaborate parquet flooring on the ground floor are particularly noteworthy. The imposing wooden staircase is brightened up by the large stained glass window on the mezzanine level. The floorboards have been preserved on the upper floor and the roof is covered with Schorndorf plain tiles.
The pellet heating system installed in 2019 adds a modern heating system to the building. In the living-dining area, the heating is supported by the cozy warmth of a modern wood-burning stove.
The electrical system was also updated in 2019 (except for the basement).

Short distances in the heart of the Sauerland region

All the shops you need for your daily needs are in the immediate vicinity: supermarkets, pharmacies, bank branches, a wide range of restaurants, and Meggen train station, which is only about a 5-minute walk from the house.
Meggen offers excellent education and childcare facilities for families. Several childcare facilities are available in the village, as well as a primary school, which is about a 10-minute walk away. Secondary schools are also located in the immediate vicinity: there is a high school in the neighboring village of Altenhundem, and a secondary school in nearby Grevenbrück. These can be reached quickly by bus or car.
Altenhundem, the administrative and business center of the city of Lennestadt, can also be reached in about 5 minutes by car. Here you will find additional shopping opportunities, doctors, cultural offerings, and a wide range of leisure activities.
The natural surroundings are particularly noteworthy: meadows, forests, and numerous hiking trails are practically on your doorstep and offer ideal opportunities for recreation and relaxation.
Lennestadt-Meggen impresses not only with its beautiful location, but also with its cultural attractions. The "Siciliaschacht Meggen" mining museum is one of the region's most famous sights. The historic facilities were once among the world's most important sulfur mines. The famous Sauerland Pyramids, with their extraordinary exhibitions, also invite visitors to enjoy exciting visits.
